Anita B. Siegman, Ph.D., Licensed Psychologist, UCLA

“I have been truly wowed by Babette’s remarkable skill in teaching Alexander Technique. Her gentle, insightful approach incorporating simplified anatomical concepts into daily practice improved my coordination with surprising ease because it made so much sense. I have referred some of my patients to her who required an understanding of the connection between mood disorders and physical discomfort; they appreciated her non-judgmental and supportive approach.  Finally, her comprehensive academic training coupled with a natural teaching flair makes her an outstanding guide for anyone."

Tessa Slovis, Theater Faculty, CalArts

“Babette is a patient and thoughtful Alexander teacher who brings a lightness and joy to her work. Her training opened up my emotional availability, deepened my mind-body connection and broke many creative roadblocks. Alexander training is essential for the physical and emotional sustainability necessary for the actor. Expect many breakthroughs and a lot of somatic healing!"

David Roitstein, CalArts Music Faculty

“I took lessons in Alexander Technique with Babette Markus about 20 years ago.  I still think about what she taught me, especially when I’m playing the piano.  It helps me slow down just enough to notice, and to remember a better way to use my body.  I am always grateful to have those tools!  I often recommend AT to my music students at CalArts, to addresses the physical issues they may have when making music in practice and performance. AT shows you how to use your body in everything that you do."

Katy C. MS, LMFT

"Babette's qualifications speak for themselves.  But what astonished me from our very first conversation was her warmth, empathy, and intuition.  I always feel safe and valued in her lovely presence, and every single lesson sends me home with little treasures I can use in my daily life. She is also an inspiration -- full of energy and joy.  I am not exaggerating when I say that this work has been life altering.  If you've have any sort of physical or emotional trauma that has left you feeling disconnected from your body, you truly could not be in better hands."

Adam Smith, CalArts Theater Faculty

"Babette Markus has been my esteemed and treasured colleague in the Acting program at CalArts for many years. She and I worked concurrently with the same BFA acting students during their "Shakespeare" year - I taught them their voice technique class while Babette was their AT instructor. As a voice/speech teacher, I spend an inordinate amount of time emphasizing the critical nature of alignment to proper breath support (and hence vocal performance), as well as re-patterning old habits, and I was deeply grateful that Babette's compassionate and insightful guidance gave my students the language and tools necessary to enact real, lasting change in their instruments. I also regularly told my students that I wasn't as fortunate as they were to have AT included in my own training, and that seeing their demonstrable progress makes me wish that I, myself, could benefit from Babette's extraordinary gifts as a teacher!"
